August 4 – 20, 2022
Opening reception: Thursday, Aug. 4, 7–10pm
Viewing hours: Fridays and Saturdays,12–5pm, or by appointment
Day & Night Projects is proud to present Interwoven, a two-person exhibition featuring our Spring 2022 interns, Sierra Kazin and Fatima Amir. Kazin paints desaturated figures of women as they interact with collaged paper and images. Fatima explores their world and the people in it through film-based appropriated media, including video and pen & ink drawings. The conversations between these young artists—exploring their identities and the environments that shaped them—emphasizes differences, motivations, and philosophies in order to understand their selves and others.
Interwoven will open with a socially-distanced reception on Thursday, August 4, 7–10pm. Viewing hours are Fridays and Saturdays,12–5pm, or by appointment. The exhibition will also be available for view as photos on our website https://daynightprojects.art, including the option to purchase artworks on our online store. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Day & Night Projects will implement the following precautions to limit transmission of the virus: Visitors must be vaccinated. Masks will be required indoors. Our garage door will be open in good weather to increase air circulation. Refreshments will be served outside. Hand sanitizer will be provided. All high-touch surfaces will be cleaned every hour.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Fatima Amir (they/them) graduated from Georgia State with an interdisciplinary degree in Game Design and Development, yet they have had the opportunity to explore various artistic disciplines. Focusing on Video Art, Amir has presented with Liquid Blackness’ Amplify, the Georgia State Research Conference, and the Black Box film Festival in Tampa, FL, winning first place for their experimental film A walk in the shadows. As a community-focused artist, Amir has created free art classes in painting, drawing, game design, and video editing. Amir has also documented The Black Mecca Project (a black liberation movement), The Nap Ministries, and worked with Urge Atlanta on the Black Mama’s Project.
Sierra Kazin (she/her) is a mixed-media artist based in Atlanta, GA. Her work includes compositional collage drawings and paintings that act as vibrant snapshots of introspection and memory. The center of her art practice focuses on themes from her own life and is influenced from those who are closest to her. Her use of form and collage act as a vehicle to visually express her mixed feelings towards her own identity. She received her B.F.A from The School of Art and Design at Kennesaw State University in 2021. She has exhibited locally throughout Georgia, most recently at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art; and is currently preparing for a solo show at the end of 2022.
