Day & Night Projects is proud to present Conduits and Patinas, a solo show of photo-based works that spring from the artist’s moral questioning of the medium of photography itself. To the New York City-based Nuñez, taking, pointing, capturing, framing, and enlarging are “power-forward actions prone to violating the subject.” In an effort to forbear this violence, the artist turned to a decentralized form of image making with non-human subjects. A key metaphor for Nuñez is the European Water Chestnut, an invasive species of pondlife that spread to form mats that block out the light to the rest of the plants, taking over its ecosystem. The resulting photograms and exposed images are obscured and obstructed by seeds and leaves and other materials that blur the scene’s power dynamics.
Conduits and Patinas will open with a free, public reception on Thursday, October 5, 7–10pm. As a special event, part of Atlanta Art Week, Nuñez will give an artist talk on Sunday, Oct. 8, starting at 6pm. Viewing hours are Fridays and Saturdays,12–5pm, or by appointment.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Carlos Nuñez is a Venezuelan artist living and working in New York City. His work addresses historical networks of power and their impact on ubiquity. Through observation and research, Nuñez weaves speculative narratives that retrace and unveil systems of oppression. His work spans from photography, mixed media, printmaking and sculpture, with the goal of reshaping social structures and bringing visibility to natural and political forces in the world.
