Day & Night Projects is proud to present moment, a solo exhibition by Atlanta artist Mark Wentzel. This collection of sculptural forms and installation explores the metaphor of the “moment” as defined in architecture, physics, psychology, and neuroscience. From a cenotaph as a Ritz cracker in carved soapstone, to arrow-martyred bowling balls, to a 10-ft scale model of the Washington Monument, the themes of judgment, power, and identity are handled playfully, with dark undertones.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Mark Wentzel
Mark (b.1970) is a Detroit-born visual artist based in Atlanta. Drawing inspiration from Detroit’s industrial culture, he explores themes of mechanical power, sleek design, and the DIY spirit of working-class communities. He began exhibiting his work in 2005, and his career took off after graduating from Michigan State University, when his XLounge sculpture was shown at a gallery in Washington, DC. It was later featured at ScopeNY, ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, and eventually as part of a series at the CDC Museum. In 2009, he had his first solo exhibition at Atlanta Contemporary, where he suspended a 1965 Mustang. After a brief hiatus to focus on family, Wentzel resumed his sculptural work in 2022.
