Exhibition Dates: Nov. 20–Dec. 31, 2020
Day & Night Projects is proud to present an exhibition of artists curated by QUAID Artist Collective of Tampa,
Florida. Featured are artists Neil Bender, Taylor Finke, Jenn Ryann Miller, Justin Nelson, Sam Newton, Anthony
Record, Gary Schmitt, and Emiliano Settecasi.
The Inside of My Eyelids explores the genre of “landscape” and the ways it can function as relief during a time of restricted travel and a way of evoking public and private spaces in increased isolation. The darkness and projection that happens with eyes closed reveals a swimmingly bizarre world of imagined interior worlds, dreaming of being someplace else, and the abstraction of fluttering images. Again, “landscape” is a loose framework on which the QUAID artists will show a variety of work exploring the possibility of images, both fantastic and concrete.
Neil Bender’s late-night fever dreams become misremembered and misrepresented as he brings them into the physical form of drawings in ink, acrylic, and collage. Anthony Record’s ambiguous, shadowy forms in acrylic paint echo call forth the haunted history of the Southern landscape. Sam Newton’s apocalyptic horses stampede through this year in oil on canvas. Justin Nelson’s meticulous moth calls out from (or to?) a dystopian future. Taylor Finke’s photo of a quiet moment shimmers like phosphenes. Jenn Ryann Miller’s painted steel artwork evokes memories of the epic road trip.
The Inside of My Eyelids will be on view Nov. 20–Dec. 31. Gallery hours are 12–5pm Fridays and Saturdays,
or by appointment. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Day & Night Projects will implement the following precautions to limit transmission of the virus: No opening reception will be held.
