Day & Night Projects is proud to present Atlanta artist Jackson Markovic’s solo exhibition, “Is It All Over My Face?” Atlanta’s Cheshire Bridge Road corridor, a long-time red light district, is facing crises like many neighborhoods in the United States, due to gentrification, the pandemic, and violent hate crimes. Markovic, who grew up in the adjacent Morningside neighborhood, returns with his camera to explore the people and places amongst the sex shops, strip clubs, and gay bars.
Here is the desire for some to be seen and show their faces, to “serve face”—and for others to hide in the shadows. The street provides purposeful spaces for both, and Markovic’s camera reveals the contours of anonymity and surveillance his subjects must negotiate in pursuit of pleasure. The show’s title “Is It All Over My Face?” from the disco hit of 1980, could accurately describe what portraiture searches for—or just a hushed question spoken behind the Marriott.
“Is It All Over My Face?” will open with a free, public reception on Thursday, Sept. 8, 7–10pm. Viewing hours are Fridays and Saturdays,12–5pm, or by appointment. The exhibition will also be available for view as photos on our website daynightprojects.art, including the option to purchase artworks on our online store.
Generous funding for this exhibition was provided by Idea Capital and by Georgia State University’s Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design—Mark Phillips Scholarship.
